4 Places To Visit on a Nusa Penida Day Trip from Bali
A Nusa Penida day trip is a must if you have room In your schedule when you are visiting Bali.
Many people think Nusa Penida is part of Bali, but it is a completely different island (it’s close to Bali, though!). Nusa Penida is an Indonesian island located between the east coast of Bali and the island of Lombok, Indonesia.
I visited last year with a company called Holiday In Nusa Penida for about $85 USD which included a moto scooter pickup and drop off from Canggu, Bali plus the ferry tickets roundtrip, and the guide/driver.
I recommend visiting with a company if you are not staying overnight on the island due to the roads, which can be difficult and bumpy to drive on if you are not used to them. They have paved some roads but some (like the drive to Kelingkeling) are filled with potholes.
Regardless of whether you visit Nusa Penida on your own or as part of a trip, here are some highlights to look forward to:
1) Kelingking Beach Nusa Penida
This is the dinosaur-shaped formation that has a beach below that you are probably most familiar with associating to Nusa Penida!
There is always a line for photos, so after snapping a pic if you want to go down the very steep staircase to lay on the beach, you may. Trust the locals and ask if it is safe to go to the beach though, because sometimes tides are dangerous.
2) Broken Beach
Broken Beach is famous for its arch that creates a beautiful view. It is truly stunning in person.
3. Angel’s Billabong
This is a really cool crevice and viewpoint. However…be careful with nearby Angel’s Billabong though, it’s beautiful to see but probably don’t go swimming in this area…!
There are videos circulating around social media of people swimming in the area and huge waves coming in - pretty dangerous to get slammed by a massive wave with sharp rocks. Not worth the photos…stay safe and listen to the guides/locals :)
4) Diamond Beach
Diamond Beach is one of my favorite beaches in the world from a visual perspective. The rock formations are massive and much larger looking in real life than in photos. Photos don’t do this place justice!
Like Kelingking Beach, you can also brave the very steep climb down for the beach, though also ensure to ask locals whether it is safe to swim so you don’t get caught in dangerous waves.
There are also squat-style portable toilet stalls near the parking lot if you need one. Bring hand sanitizer and toilet paper if you use it.
Ah, I love Diamond Beach so much. I wish I could jump into the photo and be back there right now.
5) Treehouse
The Rumah Pohon "Tree House" is another iconic location on the island, especially if you are into photography.
You’ll need to wait in line for photos and pay a small fee ~$5 USD, and the owner times everyone for only 2-3 minutes to take photos. It includes a beautiful view but I’d say is only worth it if you want to take photos.
There really is no shortage of places to experience some of the most visually stunning views in Asia on Nusa Penida Island, if not the world!
I enjoyed my day trip, even though the tides were a bit rough and couldn’t go swimming or snorkeling. The beauty of the island was more than enough!
